My Thoughts On The Summer 2013 Lord Of The Rings Sets (Part 2)

Welcome to Part 2 of My Thoughts On The Summer 2013 Lord Of The Rings Sets! In this post I will be talking about set 79007 Battle at the Black Gate and set 79008 Pirate Ship Ambush. Enjoy! 😉

➡ 79007 Battle at the Black Gate:

One of the most epic scenes in Return of the King is that part where all the good guys (excluding Frodo & Sam) march up to the Black Gate of Mordor, the gateway into the land of Sauron, just so they can buy the hobbits more time to reach Mount Doom. There, they meet Sauron’s messenger, the Mouth of Sauron, and a gigantic army of orcs. Does the set share the same greatness of the scene? Read on to find out!

💡 The Set:

This set has 656 pieces, making it medium sized set. With that being said, it looks pretty small. But don’t worry, it is almost a foot long! (Not that that’s huge or anything, but it’s a lot bigger than it looks!) It has a very cool looking gate, and an awesome tower, which measures 8 inches high. It also comes with a new piece that is very cool, an eagle! The eagle’s wingspan is over 7 inches long! Also, I have heard that if you get two of this set, you can combine them for one giant Black Gate!

💡 The Minifigures:

This set comes with 5 minifigures, who are Aragorn, Gandalf the White, the Mouth of Sauron, and 2 Mordor Orcs. Aragorn comes with his Gondor attire, which is grey pants, a blue shirt (with grey sleeves) that has the symbol of Gondor on it, and a red cape with grey on the back. Gandalf the White comes with white pants, a white shirt with robe printing on it, and a new hair piece. The Mouth of Sauron comes with black pants, a black shirt (with grey sleeves and black gloves) and a new helmet piece. His head comes with a giant mouth printing! The set also comes with two Mordor Orcs, one who has a helmet.

💡 The Price:

This set is $60 dollars. At 11 cents a piece , it seems this set is fairly priced for a licensed set. However, this set has mostly smaller pieces, making the set smaller than expected for the price.

💡 Should You Get It?:

Maybe. Like I said above, this set is kinda small for the price. However, the stunning details and wonderful minifigures make it were that might not matter. So, if you like the set, and don’t mind the price too much, I recommend getting this one! 😀

➡ 97008 Pirate Ship Ambush:

One of my favorite scenes in Return of the King is were Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli jump out of a pirate ship, surprising the orcs waiting at the shore. But how is the LEGO set like? Read on to find out!

💡 The Set:

This set is great. It comes with 756 pieces, and is over 13 inches long. I just love the sails, as they are pretty accurate to the ones in the movie! It comes with lots of chains, shields, wing shaped pieces, and lots of other things. It also comes with a little orc catapult. All in all, this is a very detailed and nice set!

💡 The Minifigures:

This set comes with nine minifigures, who are Aragorn, Legolas Greenleaf, Gimli, 2 Mordor Orcs, the King of the Dead, 2 Soldiers of the Dead and a Pirate of Umbar. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli come in their normal clothes, and come with their awesome little weapons. The set comes with two Mordor Orcs, one who has a chest-plate. The King of the Dead and his two soldiers are awesome minifigures, with lots of detail. The best part about them is they glow on the dark, just like in the movie! The Pirate of Umbar comes with grey pants, a grey shirt with some little details printed on it, a head with two expressions, one scared and another angry, and long black hair, the same used by Thorin and Kili.

💡 The Price:

Like I said above, this set comes with 756 pieces, which seems like very few pieces for a $100 dollar set. However, contrary to set 97007, this set has not very many pieces for the price, but most of them are large pieces.

💡 Should You Get It?:

Yes! Unless you don’t like this set for some reason, I would urge you to buy it. It Has Great details, lots of minfigures, and tons of accessories! So go buy it if you want to!

So, there, we have finished part 2. Don’t forget to come back in a few days for part 3, which is going to be about the Tower of Orthanc! In the meantime, you can buy the Battle at the Black Gate here, and the Pirate Ship Ambush here, or any LOTR set here! You can also say what you think in the comments below! 😛
